Drew Schafer, MA, LLP

Drew, Can you tell us more about your vision for what client, who graduate from Mid-Michigan Therapy can say about their time here, what they have learned? My hope is that all of our clients graduating from Mid-Michigan Therapy walk away with three things. One, I want people to have a sense of being able to connect more deeply with their own emotions; being able to understand their patterns, how they talk to themselves, contributing factors that change their mood, trigger their anxiety, trigger their trauma and even their patterns of how they interact in relationships. Secondly, I want people to feel more confident, more comfortable connecting deeper in their relationships. So, we can talk about the science of how meaningful relationships is one of the top predictors of longevity in life. Or we can just talk about the gut level feeling of how meaningful and enriching meaningful relationships make life. And then number three, I want everyone who graduates from Mid-Michigan Therapy to walk away with a sense of being able to thrive in their daily life. And this one, is so important to me because I have had so many of my own therapy sessions working with people with trauma and neurodivergence where those executive functioning tasks get disrupted and just dealing with daily hassles and life stressors just become almost insurmountable. And then people walk away with really damaging stories about themselves: that life is too hard or they're too broken or everybody else seems to have it figured out but them and that they just are kind of beyond repair. But if we help these people walk through how to start thriving in daily life then they start having a sense of empowerment and there just seems to be more mental bandwidth to enjoy relationships and enjoy hobbies and enjoy down time and the things that really make life feel like it is worth the living. So if you would like to connect deeper with your own emotions, connect deeper in relationships and learn how to thrive in daily life reach out to us through email, contact form or call us because we would love to help.

About Drew:

I believe that clients who work with me are already doing their best to cope with their struggles in life before they come into therapy. The job of my clients and I is to collaborate and explore how their current ways of coping inadvertently contribute to their struggles. I believe therapy is not about telling people to try harder but helping clients understand how they can try differently. I work with a wide variety of clients (ages 10+)  and mental health goals including: ADHD and behavioral problems, anxiety issues (generalized, social anxiety and OCD) as well as communication skills and relationship issues.
